WHERE CALM MEETS GREATNESS

My design philosophy is deeply rooted in duality; finding beauty in contrast. Curating a personal brand statement for the current reigning Men's Classic Physique champion, Chris Bumstead, allowed me to distill this philosophy through color, patchwork, and storytelling.

CBum is celebrated for his dominance in the bodybuilding world. With a remarkable string of victories, including five consecutive Mr. Olympia titles, he has become a symbol of excellence and dedication. His aesthetic physique, marked by a perfect blend of size, symmetry, and conditioning, embodies the classic ideals of the sport. Beyond his impressive physical achievements, CBum is admired for his humility, work ethic, and relentless pursuit of perfection- inspiring countless fans and aspiring bodybuilders to elevate their own standards.

The letterman jacket created for his fifth Olympia victory draws inspiration from his personal experiences. His quiet humility and calm dedication to his craft stand in stark contrast to his inspiration, MJ, who embodied a polarising, aggressive approach to excellence—one way on the surface, another in emotion. As I approached this design, I drew from these ideals. Each patch pays homage to MJ’s iconic ’90s championship era, a nod to the relentless pursuit of greatness. Pairing this with a color palette reflecting Chris’s calm, minimalistic persona to embody discipline and simplicity. The phrase “Dream with Intent” is prominently displayed on the front, capturing Chris’s core message while also rendering the message in chain stitch to symbolise the interconnectedness of success—a reminder that true achievement requires a team with purpose and intent.

WHAT IS DONE IN THE DARK WILL COME TO LIGHT

For Alphalete’s Spring 2024 Duality collection, the vision focuses on new beginnings and transformations while remaining consistent with the fundamental ideals of the brand. The inspiration draws from the brighter, longer days of spring, symbolising the resilience to extract energy even from the darkness and remain focused on growth. Central to this theme is the juxtaposition of light and dark, brought together to create a renewed experience in the collection.

This concept is brought to life through the reimagining of bodybuilding staples, enhanced with innovative fabrics, fresh proportions, and a spring color palette. The collection features cropped, garment-dyed cotton fleece hoodies, sweatpants, and shorts, each piece crafted with a unique sun-wash effect that mimics the gradual fading and softening of fabric under the stronger sunlight of spring. This effect adds a layer of depth and dimension, reflecting the transition from darkness to light.

The garments are further distinguished by burn-in logos and pockets, where the branding subtly emerges as if it has been imprinted by the sun itself, offering a rugged, lived-in look. This technique enhances the tactile experience of the clothing, reinforcing the idea of transformation and endurance.

Additionally, the collection includes embellished, tattered branding elements that give a nod to the resilience and strength required to persevere through challenges. These distressed details add character to the pieces, making them not just clothing, but symbols of the journey towards self-improvement and renewal.

Complementing the fleece pieces are soft viscose rib tank tops, designed to be versatile and comfortable, aligning with the idea of being a part of the wearer’s journey to “Be More.” The Duality collection is a harmonious blend of aesthetic innovation and the enduring spirit of Alphalete, offering a fresh take on classic staples that resonate with the brand’s commitment to progress and transformation.

CONSISTENCE BEATS RESISTANCE

For Alphalete’s Summer delivery, the exploration of activewear for the new generation of athletes; where high performance meets athleisure. Expressed through a modern lens, to distill the fundamentals of form, function, and comfort by using the aesthetics of running to effortlessly complement any athlete’s wardrobe. The result is highly functional and fashionable activewear.

The collection features breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics that ensure optimal body temperature regulation, even during the most intense workouts. Thoughtfully engineered seams enhance durability while minimising friction, allowing for a seamless fit that moves with the body. Additionally, the inclusion of adjustable elements, such as drawstrings and elasticated waistbands, ensures a personalised fit tailored to individual comfort and activity needs.

The goal was to be uncompromising with the intention behind each design. From preparation to process to completion, the execution of the design process is displayed in every detail. Everything from fabric selection to the placement of pockets was carefully considered for optimal performance and movability. Whether you’re running, lifting weights, or on the road to recovery, this collection is created for withstanding your athletic process.

This Summer delivery also marks the introduction of Alphalete’s new active division, designed to cater specifically to the needs of serious athletes. The collection sets a new standard for the brand, expanding its reach into the realm of high-performance sportswear while maintaining the versatility and style that Alphalete is known for.

EFFORTLESS COMFORT, ELEVATED DEPENDABILITY

The Zero Collection represents a significant evolution for Alphalete, marking the introduction of a newly developed division within the company. This division is dedicated to redefining what it means to offer reliable, foundational pieces that seamlessly integrate into any lifestyle. By focusing on the essentials, the Zero Division embodies Alphalete’s commitment to versatility and allows Zero to be a response to the growing demand for clothing that priorities comfort, ease, and adaptability without sacrificing style.

Zero represents a fresh perspective on classic staples to offer reliability for your lifestyle. The vision behind Zero was to elevate the concept of dependability, creating garments that are not just functional but also timeless. These pieces were meticulously designed with a focus on minimalism—featuring clean lines, minimal seams, subtle branding, and a neutral color palette. TREES ARE NOT PLANTED, SEEDS ARE

Approaching the campaign shoot for Heidi Sommers, I explore the idea that, no matter the opposition, we all possess the ability to extract energy in the dark to produce fruit in our lives. As a a dynamic fitness personality, entrepreneur, and content creator, Heidi Sommers has inspired millions with her journey of transformation and dedication to health. She has built a loyal following through empowering others to pursue their fitness goals with confidence, blending practical advice with motivational insights. Her story is one of perseverance, passion, and a commitment to helping others lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.

Trees are not planted; seeds are,” is inspired by the central theme of juxtaposition, where dark times give rise to light moments. Throughout the campaign, we bring this concept to life through carefully curated set design, styling, jewelry, and photography.

The use of contrasting elements—dark, earthy tones paired with bursts of vibrant, natural light—to symbolize the journey from struggle to growth. Scenes designed to evoke a sense of emerging from the shadows, with organic textures and raw materials that reflect the process of transformation. Reinforcing the theme with outfits that mix structured, rigid silhouettes with a flowing hairstyle, representing the tension between resilience and softness. The color palette shifts from deep, moody hues to lighter, more hopeful shades as the campaign progresses, mirroring the journey from darkness to light. Using jewelry as symbolic focus—pieces that combine raw, unpolished stones with refined metals, embodying the idea of beauty emerging from the rough and unfinished. These accessories are strategically placed to draw attention to the contrasts in the styling, adding layers of meaning to each look.

DUAL HORIZONS

Dual Horizons, celebrates the rich and complex duality of being Indi-Canadian, blending the vibrant cultural heritage of India with the contemporary aesthetics of Canada. This collection is a tribute to the unique fusion of traditions and modernity that defines the Indi-Canadian experience, embracing both the warmth of Indian heritage and the sleek sophistication of modern design.

The collection draws heavily on the intricate craftsmanship and luxurious fabrics synonymous with Indian culture, such as handwoven silks, detailed brocades, and fine embroidery. These traditional elements are juxtaposed with modern, minimalist silhouettes that reflect the clean lines and understated elegance of contemporary Canadian fashion. The result is a harmonious blend of the old and the new, where garments exude both cultural richness and modern simplicity.

The color palette is a thoughtful fusion of deep, jewel tones like turmeric, ruby, and sapphire, which are iconic in Indian attire, combined with the cool, neutral shades of Canadian design, such as slate gray, brown, and midnight black. Each piece balances these dual influences, with traditional Indian motifs like paisleys and mandalas subtly integrated into modern designs, creating a seamless blend of two worlds.

The collection’s identity is brought to life through a harmonious blend of cultural symbolism and modern aesthetics. Campaign imagery captures the essence of duality, with settings that juxtapose the vibrant, carpet backdrop with the, minimal white studio. The use of light and shadow in photography further emphasizes the theme, highlighting the intricate details of the garments while also conveying the sleek sophistication of the overall design. This approach ensures that the collection resonates with both cultural authenticity and modern relevance, making Dual Horizons a true celebration of the Indo-Canadian experience.

GATES OF REVERENCE

Inspired by the architectural and spiritual grandeur of Sikh temples, our latest collection, Gates of Reverence, pays homage to the profound symbolism of the temple’s four entry doors. Each door represents a key aspect of the Sikh philosophy: openness to all, the quest for truth, humility, and the pursuit of justice. These themes are woven into the fabric of our designs, creating a collection that embodies both spiritual depth and aesthetic elegance.

The designs incorporate intricate embroidery and embellishments that mirror the ornate detailing found in Sikh temple architecture, bringing a sense of reverence and craftsmanship to each piece. Luxurious fabrics, such as handwoven silks and rich brocades, are used to evoke the opulence and sanctity of these sacred spaces. Additionally, the color palette draws inspiration from traditional Sikh hues, featuring deep blues, saffron oranges, and pristine whites, symbolizing spirituality, courage, and purity.

The set design for “Gates of Reverence” is as thoughtfully crafted as the collection itself, emphasising the spiritual journey each piece represents. The four doors, each symbolising a key aspect of Sikh philosophy, serve as the centrepiece of the set, inviting viewers to reflect on the themes of openness, truth, humility, and justice as they engage with the collection. An intricately woven Indian rug, placed at the threshold, guides the path, symbolising the grounding connection between tradition and modernity. A steel bowl for hand washing is situated at the entrance, a nod to the ritual of purification before entering sacred spaces, further deepening the sense of reverence and respect that permeates the collection.

Each look was styled to balance the rich tradition of Sikh heritage with contemporary fashion sensibilities, creating a visual identity that resonates with both authenticity and modern elegance. Jewelry pieces were carefully selected to reflect traditional Sikh adornments, featuring gold accents and intricate designs that complement the garments’ luxurious textures. Headpieces and turbans, inspired by traditional Sikh attire, were incorporated to honor the cultural significance of these elements while also aligning with the collection’s aesthetic vision.

UNVANQUISHED

Unvanquished is a collection that delves into the profound journey of self-discovery and resilience, drawing inspiration from the trials and triumphs that shape our path. From deep indigo blues for a trench coat to bask in, warm and secure as your foundation- to a track suit used to justify late night runs from shadows that linger longer than they should. A suit to wear on an anniversary, fitting as both an end and a beginning. This collection reflects a deep introspection into the moments that have defined our journey, translating these experiences into garments that embody both strength and transformation.

The collection is thoughtfully curated to reflect the dual themes of resilience and transformation. The deep indigo trench coat, a centrepiece of the collection, is styled with a blend of rugged and refined elements, incorporating tailored lines with functional details to represent both security and adaptability. The tracksuit is designed with an urban, utilitarian aesthetic, featuring sleek, streamlined cuts and reflective accents that highlight its practical, yet stylish nature. For the suit, the styling focuses on a timeless elegance that bridges the gap between formal and casual, making it versatile for both significant milestones and everyday wear.
